Rain Boots: The Fun Side

Well since it’s a rainy day I wanted to tell you something kind of funny that happened to me on a day just like today. No rainy day would be complete without the ever so practical rain boot. . Now, I had never owned a pair of rain boots until I was a freshman at the University of North Alabama. After walking to all of my classes, on a particularly rainy day, I saw so many girls wearing rain boots. I had always thought they were ugly, and refused to buy a pair, until this point in my life. I finally gave in when I realized how much I hated the bottom of my pants getting wet from walking in the rain. Then, my lovely mother bought me a pair of juicy couture rain boots. They were a sleek color of black, with the juicy couture label on the side.
I was so excited the next time it rained so I could wear my rain boots, just like any other freshman sorority girl. I woke up one morning at the dorms, for my first of many classes that day, and much to my excitement it was a torrential down pour. I got ready for class, and put on my straight-legged jeans, long sleeve alpha gam shirt, my raincoat, umbrella, and finally my new and first pair of rain boots. I walked out of my dorm with a you “cant touch me rain”, “no more soggy ends of pants” type attitude. I was confident and ready for the world, and any puddle, in my rain boots!
As I was making my way to class every puddle I saw I purposely walk into it, just because I could. The rain boots had my back, well feet I guess/upper leg portion. When people weren’t around I got more daring. I would jump in the puddles! So I basically look like a three year old at this point, it doesn’t help that I’m 5’1, but I was so excited about my new found love of rain boots, I didn’t care.
I was almost at my first class, and that’s when I saw the perfect puddle. It was my last one to jump in before my class, my last chance to enjoy my euphoric immature moment, so naturally I jumped into it with all of my might. I waited for the perfect moment when no one was around, or at least I hoped no one was. I got a little bit of a running start, pulled my knees into my chest and landed in the perfect puddle. Too bad this wasn’t then perfect puddle, its looks had deceived me. It was much deeper than what it seemed. My next reaction was to look down, but the cold muddy water rushing into my boots beat my eyes. So there I am, my legs are soaking wet, I can feel the water sloshing around when I moved my toes. That’s when I realized I was semi stuck in the mud; I had to pull myself out of my rain boots. Then pull them out separately. I couldn’t help but laugh at my self and think I still enjoyed jumping in this puddle.
Word to the wise rain boots do not make you indestructible from rain, storms, or the world. They do make you feel like this though, and its not so bad to jump in a puddle every now and then.  Why not enjoy the strange urges you have to jump in a puddle, or on a deeper note follow your dreams and feelings. Just run with it and jump in a puddle, you might get stuck but you can always pull yourself out, and you might have a few funny stories to tell later.
